These guest speakers will offer general tips and advice including how to successfully complete your online application form. They will also cover other general industry and start-up business topics.

Presenters

Rex Northen | Executive Director

Rex is an entrepreneur with a long history of building and managing companies and successful teams. He has product development, management and technical expertise having founded and served as CEO with technology companies both in Europe and the United States.
His background includes experience in the design, development and implementation of business automation systems as well as sales, marketing, online marketing, and consulting. Rex has worked with many hundreds of companies including a diverse range of startups and global corporations.
In 2007-2008 volunteered for the California Cleantech Open as Chair of the Mentors and Angel Investor programs and an active member of the fundraising team. He holds an M.A. with Honors from Oxford University

Rob Day, Partner at Black Rock Capital

Rob Day is a Partner with Black Coral Capital, based in Boston. He has been a cleantech private equity investor since 2004, and acts or has served as a Director, Observer and advisory board member to multiple companies in the energy tech and related sectors, currently including Digital Lumens (www.digitallumens.com), Next Step Living (www.nextsteplivinginc.com), Powerit Solutions (www.poweritsolutions.com), and Zeta Communities (www.zetacommunities.com). Rob is the Chairman of the Cleantech Open – Northeast Region. Rob was previously a co-founder of the Renewable Energy Business Network, a non-profit organization which was acquired in 2009 by the Clean Economy Network, now part of the Advanced Energy Economy (www.aee.net). Since 2005 he has also authored the website Cleantech Investing (www.cleantechvc.com), which currently appears on GreentechMedia.com. Formerly a consultant with Bain & Company, Rob has worked with companies and evaluated private equity transactions in the energy/ utilities, telecom, IT, medical/pharmaceutical, and retail industries. Earlier in his career, Rob was a member of the World Resources Institute’s Sustainable Enterprise Program, where he co-authored the report The Next Bottom Line: Making Sustainable Development Tangible. Rob received his MBA at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University), and his BA at Swarthmore College.

Heidi Lubin, CEO at Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies (HEVT)

Heidi Lubin has broad experience in both early stage ventures and with mature automotive and energy organizations, internationally and in the United States. Currently, Heidi is CEO of Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies (HEVT). An early stage technology company based in Chicago, Illinois, HEVT’s mission is to develop and deploy innovative technologies that will facilitate the emergence of electrified transport.

Justin Kaster, Co-Founder and President, Cleantech Open Midwest

Justin is a business innovation strategist, corporate development professional, and management advisor. Over the course of his career, he has worked with hundreds of companies and executed on over $2 billion of transactions. Justin co-founded the Midwest division of Cleantech Open, which includes Midwest North and Midwest Central regions. In 2011, Justin was named to Twin Cities Business magazine list of “200 Minnesotans You Should Know.” The list is a compilation of Industry Titans, Rising Stars, Agents of Change, Creative Geniuses and Local Sports Leaders and Celebrities. He is also an active member with community and industry organizations, including serving on the advisory board for two Department of Energy programs and DistribuTECH, a national cleantech conference.
