Cleantech Open 2014 Global Ideas Competition
Now in its sixth year, Cleantech Open Global Ideas is a truly global search for technologies that make a real difference: breakthrough clean technology ideas from innovators around the word to replace the polluting energy, water, building and transport technologies of yesteryear. As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, this annual competition sees startups from around the world contending for national awards. The national winners then face off at the spectacular Cleantech Open Global Forum in San Francisco, California (November 12-13, 2014) for the Global Ideas Prize.
Last year, twenty-eight teams from around the world convened at the 2013 Global Forum, with additional finalists from Cape Verde, Lebanon, Vietnam and beyond joining via videoconference. Since 2009, 39 countries have participated in Cleantech Open Global Ideas with the most recent global award going to ECF Farmsystems from Germany for its innovative aquaponic farm system – next-generation urban fish and vegetable production. Other global winners have developed solutions for to clean liquid industrial waste, for sustainable manufacturing in the chemicals industry, to cut costs and CO2 emissions in construction and to produce energy from micro-algae.
