The United States Congress Goes Green with Nila LED Lighting
The United States House of Representatives recently upgraded the lighting in the Main House Chamber using high-performance, energy-efficient LED lighting from Nila Inc. Nila was awarded the highly competitive contract to replace the 35-year old TV lights in the Main House Chamber with Nila Boxer LED lights, due to the high output of the Nila lights (even from long distances) along with a 75% reduction in energy use directly associated with lighting and a dramatic reduction in room cooling, which the old tungsten lights required. Nila products are produced in the United States, are RoHS compliant (no toxic heavy metals), exceed Energy-Star standards and can be returned to Nila for repurposing and/or recycling.
Altadena, CA November 1, 2010 The United States House of Representatives recently
upgraded the lighting in the Main House Chamber using high-performance, energy-efficient
LED lighting from Nila Inc. Nila is proud to have been awarded the highly competitive contract
to replace the 35-year old TV lights in the Main House Chamber with Nila Boxer LED lights.
The replacement lights were required to maintain the light output levels of the old system at a
distance of over 75 feet from the light fixture to speakers on the House floor. According to Nila
CEO, Jim Sanfilippo, “The Nila lights give off more light than the old system with a 75% energy
reduction over the old lights, exceeding the House's requirement. What’s more, the Nila system
allows the lights to be controlled directly from the House Recording Studio for improved
performance.” The Nila Boxer is the only LED light on the market capable of meeting all the
requirements of the Main House Chamber.
In an era when people of a variety of political viewpoints are pushing for reduced government
spending, a new technology such as from Nila provides an ideal solution. “With the Nila
Lighting System, energy consumption in the Main House Chamber went from 24,000 watts to
6000 watts. What is even more impressive is that the energy savings from cooling is greater than
the savings from the lighting, since replacing hot tungsten lights with Nila LED lights meant an
80% reduction in air conditioning load associated with those lights,” said Sanfilippo. “In
addition, the old lights would burn out in less than 1,200 hours, whereas Nila LED lights won’t
need any maintenance for at least seven years.”
