MEDIA ALERT: APRIL 17 - First Southern California Cleantech Innovators' Summit

Los Angeles cleantech event offers networking opportunities for inventors, investors, and professionals looking to create new enterprises and jobs that address the planet's climate crisis.

Los Angeles, April 8, 2010: Green2Gold and the Cleantech Open have partnered to host the first Cleantech Innovators' Summit on April 17, 2010 at the Los Angeles Central Library in the Mark Taper Auditorium from 1-5pm. The summit will feature a panel discussion on "Developing the Southern California Cleantech Ecosystem," moderated by Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel. Notable panelists include Bill Barber, chapter president of Maverick Angels; Alex Fay, Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Economic & Business Policy; Alan Tratner, founder of Green2Gold; and Gillian Christie, founder of Christie Communications. Admission is free to all attendees.
With sustainability ideas taking hold across industry sectors, the summit comes at an ideal time. Green business and clean technology stand to gain significant investor opportunities, and attention and support from consumers. The event commemorates the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and, fittingly, will begin with a welcome address by Green2Gold founder Alan Tratner, who helped found the original Earth Day in 1970. A Cleantech Expo, with exhibits and a networking opportunity, featuring organizations dedicated to fostering clean technology innovation in Southern California, will take place throughout the day.

"This unique summit will bring together business and government leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs to share ideas and work toward a common goal," said Alan Tratner, founder of Green2Gold, a green business and non-profit incubator based in Santa Barbara, California. "By encouraging the development of the cleantech industry, this summit is a step in the right direction to find solutions that are critically required."
"Building an environment that attracts and fosters innovation requires regular conversation and collaboration between government, businesses, investors and entrepreneurs at a local level," said Rex Northen, executive director of the Cleantech Open. "The Cleantech Open, Green2Gold, and the organizations gathered at this event represent the skills, programs, relationships and funding opportunities that will promote southern California as a center for world-class cleantech companies."
The summit will provide local cleantech entrepreneurs an overview of the 2010 Cleantech Open, which aims to stimulate and support products and technologies that deliver clean-energy and environmental solutions. The competition offers over $1 million in prizes and, in 2009, saw more than 250 entries across three regions. The 2009 National Winner, EcoFactor, which provides personalized solutions for managing residential energy use, just secured an additional $5.9M in venture funding.
The April 17th event is part of the "Cashing In on Great Ideas" series presented by IWIEF; G2G; the Los Angeles Central Public Library, Science, Technology and Patents, Business & Economics Departments; the Valley Economic Development Corp.; City of Los Angeles Community Development Department; Metropolitan Water District; Clean Business Investment Summit; Maverick Angels; and other supporting entities.
Parking is available under the library at 630 West 5th Street, Los Angeles ($1 with a library card,
ADA access available).
